AN INTRODUCTION TO
LEADERSNOW INTERNATIONAL
by Annie Lang
Having worked with teenagers for many years, I have come to realize the unlimited potential they have to be leaders. Teens have incredible talents, enthusiasm, and ideas. They have a natural desire to help others and to make the world in which they live a better place.
However, I think that many girls wonder if they have what it takes to be a leader. Very often when girls think about what it means to be a leader, they think of the people they know who are very outgoing, not afraid to try new things, not afraid to speak in public, or those individuals that are always in charge of groups or organizations. Unfortunately, if they do not see themselves in this way, they can think they are not leaders.
However, I do not believe that being a leader means that you are always in front, in charge or the most outspoken. In fact, some of the most effective leaders I know are rather quiet people. I also know leaders that do not like to be in front of crowds at all. The best leaders I know have a strong character and recognize their unique talents, know how to work hard in whatever situation they find themselves, and have an attitude of service. In my opinion, this is what makes the most effective kind of leader.
With these things in mind, I established LEADERSNOW INTERNATIONAL as an organization that assists young women in their process of develpment as our next generation of leaders.
Membership in the organization begins with "The LEADERSNOW Program." Included in the program are lessons on character development, leadership, style, and poise. With the assistance of a Program Coordinator, girls learn how to strengthen their character, develop the qualities of leadership, polish their appearance, and become young women who practice good manners. Learning these things will help them to be successful in whatever they do in life.
After successful completion of "The LEADERSNOW Program," girls continue in the organization. With the assistance of a Program Coordinator, they put the skills learned in "The LEADERSNOW Program" to use by engaging in service projects, mentoring, and career exploration activities. All hours of service are recorded by LNI and provided to the girls when applying for jobs or continuing their education.
